Welcome to Troutdale, Oregon!
If you’re wondering about the name of our city, it's true that Troutdale, Oregon, was named after a fish. Of course, that would be trout. Sea Captain John Harlow named Troutdale when he found the abundant trout here in the Sandy River. (Rainbow and Cutthroat are the two main species.) Indeed, Harlow liked it so much he convinced the railroad to put a depot in town!
Today, Troutdale, OR, is the largest of Portland’s suburbs and a recreation and business hub in the area. Troutdale has retained its small-town charm with around 16,000 residents. However, there are more than a few big-city amenities here. That includes Mt. Hood Community College, with over 33,000 students. (Go, Saints!) Troutdale also offers several excellent museums and galleries. The Fred E. Harlow House Museum, the Rail Depot & Caboose Museum, and Caswell Gallery are all worth visiting.
