Local Organization Supports Oregon’s Foster Youth
May is National Foster Care Month, and Oregon’s foster youth need the support of their communities now more than ever. That’s why Northwest Self Storage is proud to be a sponsor of Project Lemonade’s Foster the Future fundraising campaign.
Project Lemonade is a Portland-based nonprofit that’s on a mission to inspire self-esteem in foster youth. The organization started in 2012 when a few members of the community got together to open a pop-up store where foster youth could shop for free. Since then, it has served more than 14,000 foster youth in the state of Oregon. The organization has also expanded its offerings to include summer internships, as well as a program that provides grants to offset the cost of activities and experiences for foster children.
While Project Lemonade works tirelessly year-round to support kids in the foster care system, the fight against COVID-19 has created an even greater need for assistance. Widespread job losses are exposing children to increased safety risks. Families that were already living in or on the edge of poverty are facing additional financial burdens. Children are struggling to cope with all the change and uncertainty surrounding their home lives and school lives.
By supporting the Foster the Future campaign, you’re empowering Project Lemonade to continue its mission of giving Oregon’s foster youth belonging, security, and love. Donated funds will go toward shifting the retail store to a delivery system, providing grants to enable distance learning and educational support, and offering emotional support and basic needs to past members of the internship program.
