Here in Portland, Pride Month is XYZ. Let’s take a look at the history xyz. The first Pride Parades started as a way to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. These riots began on June 28, 1969, when NYPD raided a gay club called the Stonewall Inn. The raid sparked six days of protests that served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement. Today, people celebrate pride around the world in hundreds of cities. Not only is pride a celebration of the LGBTQ community, but it is also a time to fight for equality.
Here in Portland, the first official pride event took place in 1975 when a group of approximately 200 people organized a Gay Pride Fair near the South Park Blocks by Portland State University. This event marked what is now the annual celebration of Portland Pride. Today, Portland is home to a vibrant and active LGBTQ community.

Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center
SMYRC provides youth with a safe space to join and helps connect them with resources. Community programming includes drag shows, music, art, open mic nights, and even a queer prom. Cascade AIDS Project
